The Yoink Point is rated to BS 1363-2/EV, which means it's tested to handle the long, heavy power draw of an EV. A normal 3-pin socket just isn't built for that kind of workout.
A Yoink Point can deliver up to 13A (≈3kW), but most 'granny chargers' are limited to 10A (≈2.3kW). That's the figure we use for our pricing recommendations.
Yes, so long as you've got your trusty granny charger on hand.
Blue means your Yoink Point is connected and ready (or paused), green means it's powered on and charging, and red means the WiFi connection's gone. If it flashes green twice, it's been turned on with no credit or session left.

Pretty much anyone with a WiFi signal, and the property owner's permission. Hosts are the obvious ones, but it's not just for Airbnbs. Driveway landlords, pub owners, tenants, managers, even your nan (if she's into side hustles) can all get one.
No drama. The Yoink Point remembers its last state. In free mode it keeps working, during a paid session it runs until the time ends, and with no payment it stays off. Once WiFi is back, everything carries on as normal.

Only for the setup. Hosts use the Yoink Connect app (IOS and Android) just to get their WiFi set up. After that, hosts and guests manage everything through their web browsers. No constant updates, no cluttered phone screens.
Not usually. It depends on the installation, rather than the Yoink Point itself. Adding one to an existing safe circuit generally isn't notifiable, but installing a new circuit usually is. Your electrician can confirm what's required.
Yes. Because each Yoink Point draws an average of just 2.3kW, you can install as many as you need without notifying the DNO. They'll all appear in the same dashboard, where you can set rates, track usage and manage everything in one place. Just log in to your host account and click Add New Device to get started.

Yes. Your Yoink Point needs a steady WiFi connection to handle payments and let guests start and stop charging. Guests don't need to connect to your WiFi themselves.
First, download the Yoink Connect app from the App Store and scan the QR code on your Yoink Point. If you can't scan it, tap I don't have a QR code and select your Yoink ID from the list. You may need to enable Bluetooth and location services to connect. You'll then need to select your WiFi name from the list and enter your WiFi password. Once your Yoink Point is connected, the light on the button will turn from red to blue.
No subscriptions, and no 'free trial that suddenly isn't.' Yoink adds a small charge to the guest's session price — around 14p per hour. That covers things like payment processing, maintenance, and keeping the service running smoothly.
You're in control of what you charge. As a guide, multiply your electricity rate by 2.3, which is the maximum number of units a 3-pin EV charger uses per hour. Then add a fair contribution towards your daily standing charge (that's the fixed amount your energy supplier charges each day, no matter how much electricity you actually use). At an electricity rate of 26p per unit, we'd recommend charging around 59p of electricity per hour. So 60p/hour covers your costs fairly.
You're in control. Just set a rate that covers your average cost, or update it whenever your tariff changes. That way you're never out of pocket, and your guests always see a clear, fair price.
Yes. Log in to your host dashboard, select the Yoink Point you want to update, enter your new hourly rate and save your changes. Change it when you like if you're adjusting for energy prices.
Just link your bank account and you're set. When a guest pays to plug in, the money heads to you usually in around 3 days. No chasing, no awkward “can you send it later?” messages.
Yes, you'll get a receipt for every charge. You can also view transactions in your dashboard whenever you want to keep track of your earnings.
Yes. Just switch your Yoink Point to Free Mode whenever you want. It works like a normal socket, so you can use it yourself, or treat friends, family and VIP guests to a free top-up (no fees, no faff).
You'll see every payment recorded in your account, so you can easily track how often guests are paying to charge. We don't log the exact times the socket is in use, or when it's being used in Free Mode.
No. You can charge guests for the electricity they use, as long as you don't make a profit on the electricity itself. Simply charge what you pay your supplier, plus a fair share of the standing charge.
Only if you say so. In Free Mode, your Yoink Point works like a regular socket. Switch Free Mode off, and it won't work until a guest pays.
No. Your existing energy contract stays exactly the same. Yoink simply allows guests to pay for the electricity they use, without changing your tariff or supplier. Self-catering holiday accommodation qualifies for the reduced 5% VAT rate on electricity, and for other business premises, this rate also applies when usage averages no more than 33 kWh a day. Above this and the standard 20% rate may apply. Having a Yoink Point doesn't directly affect which rate you pay.
No. Guests simply scan the QR code on the Yoink Point and pay through their web browser, so there's no app to download and no account to create.
No subscriptions. You scan, charge, and go. Simple as.

Hosts set the hourly rate based on their energy tariff. Stripe adds a 20p transaction fee, plus a small percentage, and Yoink adds a 5p-per-hour service fee. The minimum spend for guests is 35p.
After scanning the QR code, you'll be taken to a secure Stripe checkout. You can pay with debit or credit card, Apple Pay, or Google Pay.
On average, you'll get about 6-10 miles per hour of charging, depending on your car.
Yes. Just press the button on the Yoink Point to pause charging and the timer will pause. When you're ready to continue, plug back in and press the same button to resume. The LED lights will change from green to blue.
No, you pay for a set amount of time upfront. You can pause and restart within that window, but once it's paid for, it's yours.
Yes, you can top up whenever you like. Away from the car? Visit www.yoinkpoint.com/id/[Yoink Point ID] to add more time. Make sure to jot down the ID from the box so you have it handy.
You'll need an internet connection to start your charge, either mobile data or WiFi. If your signal's a bit rubbish, just hop onto the host's WiFi and you're good to go.
If your signal drops mid-payment, it will not go through. Just try again once you are back online or find a spot with better signal.
No problem, your charge will keep going. Once the Yoink Point has received your session details, it knows how long to stay on even if the WiFi cuts out. If the payment has not gone through yet, you will just need to wait for the connection to come back before it can start.
